Art Journal: February 2015

I've been trying to view this blog as equal parts gallery and journal.  Think I've done pretty good job of it so far, it's just that there has been nothing of note to write about, and with my job keeping me fairly occupied (as well as a near debilitating lack of inspiration), I haven't done much in the way of making art.  I've been itching to go digital and even bought a tablet last year, but I often find myself lacking in discipline and patience to pursue the craft.  And yet pursue it I must.  Speaking of the job I can't think of a more fun group of folks to earn a paycheck with right now.

I still struggle in leaving my comfort zone artistically.  Still doing superheroes most of the time, but I think my efforts to branch out are bearing some fruit.  I've been drawing Star Wars characters, animals, monsters, even some X-rated material (below you'll not the troll with cock in hand).  Feel like some progress was made....I'd better stop before start rambling.

Started as another anatomy experiment.  Trying to draw a fantasty creature...

Decided to do more.  A quasi-sequential piece.

Linework.  I like how it was shaping up through the whole thing.  He as depth. Weight.

Finished piece.  She seems pleased.

Little bit to draw, less to write...

Living where I live, and given who I associate with, it can be somewhat surprising to meet fellow artists and art lovers, especially among my co-workers.  It's a bit comforting.

IT'S THAT TIME AGAIN...

A few years back me and my buddy started making observations of the commercials we saw during the Superbowl.  Here's what we noticed during this year's marketing blitz...

THING I LEARNED DURING THE SUPERBOWL

-Marsha Brady becomes Machete when she's hungry (Machete likes Snickers)
-Apparently skittles are a big deal to arm wrestlers
-Arnold can't be the governor anymore, so he wants to be a Terminator again.
-Coke can stop cyber-bullying
-Fast and Furious + Jason Statham.  That is all.
-Dove products has taken the bait and switch to a new level.
-Nissan, bringing fathers and suns together since...???
-This year's commercials, right in the feels.
-Doritos can get you a girlfriend...and a stepkid.
-Love doesn't pay the rent but it can sure help out with Mickey D's dollar menu
-A little blue pill will pimp your ride.
-Heisenburg filling your perscriptions, not a good look.
-The icky shuffle still sells.
-Is it an emergency, a pizza order, or a drug call?
-Katy Perry halftime=WIN! Welcome back Missy Elliot!
-Liam Neeson will go Qui-Gon Jinn on your ass in Clash of Clans
-Pierce Brosnan is pretty much done with action movies
-Whether it's a football or a teddy bear, Tom Brady throws a perfect spiral.
-The Slap...really?
-Farve & Carve.  LMAO!
-And last but not least, the moral of the story:  When it's 2nd & goal and you know Marshaun Lynch has eaten his skittles, you give him the damn ball.

See you with a new list next year!

Fun times at Charlotte Mini-Con Part 1 of 2

Had a blast yesterday at the Mini-Con hosted by Charlotte's own Heroes Aren't Hard to Find.  Met a ton of local artists and got some great advice!  It was big help being there, seeing as I live in an area that could care less about art or comics and hang around individuals who "coudn't draw a stick figure".  Yesterday was one of those rare moments where I was in my element, discussing the difficulties of digital paintings, improving backgrounds on my pages and going over the military history of the Star Wars Universe.  As an artist, you feed off this kind of stuff.  The only thing left to do now is attack the drawing board!
