I am a comic book artist, intellectual, MMA fan, animation lover, and would-be writer. I specialize in sequential art, character design and storyboarding and I've been influenced in a wide variety of ways, especially by the works of artists, writers and musicians, like Jack Kirby, Akira Toriyama, Yoshitaka Amano, John Romita, Jr., Erik Larsen, Frank Miller, Garth Ennis, Linkin Park, Marilyn Manson, Mark Texiera, and the list goes on and on…

Weeks Ago
by Ryan Scales
Weeks ago, Drink in hand and welcome laughter
Unexpected joy; Golden brown, petite and cheerful,
With effortless banter of Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead
and comics.
We heard ‘Pompeii’ in the car,
I went home smiling.

I feel like this is some of the best work I've produced. I particularly enjoyed the results of the CAPITAL OF COMBAT LOGO as well as BATMAN. They were the most extensive digital work I've done.

A little late night rant.
A brief rant.... When
marketing yourself they like to say display your strengths and downplay your
weaknesses. Downplaying them doesn't
overcome them does it? I believe in
being honest with myself as an artist even when that honesty might cost me some
potential business. One of the
healthiest things I can do as an individual is know my limitations and try and
improve on them. I say this because there
are moment where I don’t think I'll never get the hang of backgrounds. I always like getting feedback even if does
screw me up mentally. I've been told
that my pencils are too rough and have to get better with my backgrounds. Been trying that with my pages (not sure if
you noticed), but I'm starting to notice the tighter I try and make my pencils
the more I drive myself crazy trying to fill up the page instead doing what I
need to do, tell the story. The characters (figures) are cake but I'm breaking
my face to depict their surrounding environments. The question every artist
asks themself "is are my pencils conveying the words PROPERLY?" "Am I TELLING THE STORY?" Regardless of how rough they look, if I, my
writer, and my editor all say "Yes" then I can put that page away
(for a brief time at least), move on and drive myself a little crazier on the
next one. Just wanted to get that out. PEACE. J

DOODLES FROM THE NEW APARTMENT SESSION I
The first three I drew after reading Robopocalypse by Daniel H. Wilson. It was such a good book that my imagination wound up boiling over and I started designing characters!

Parents Are The Hardest People To Please||Spoken Word
I'm 30, my dad's dead and I live on my own now, and this poem brings back all the ugly I had to go through to get to this point and all the hang-ups that I still have. Nice piece of work. Some parents just don't understand. Some parents never will...
